We have drifting roads, closed schools and things piling up to do inside, but I worked a little on my Facebook page last night and this post comes from that. I still am learning about it. I also recently started Twitter (see to the right) and like everyone else, I’m learning, and wondering, is it worth my time? There is so much I want to do. I have 5 books I’m reading for review for Church Libraries magazine, and I’m working on creating my own fiction–at last. It is a daunting proposition. C

25 Things You May Not Know About Me My friends Heather Strout and Derek Showerman recently wrote blog posts on the “25 Things You May Not Know About Me” - and Heather ‘tagged’ me on her blog to add my own 25 things. Actually, this turned out to be a fun exercise as I thought about the bits of my life that people probably don’t know about me: I met my wife Nancy on a blind date and she is the best thing that has happened to me (and I don’t tell her enough how important she is to me).

Greetings this Monday Morning! Hope everyone had a great weekend. Last week’s Giveaway was by Danielle of Danielle’s Designs and I wanted to post her response to some questions I asked her. Carolina Girls interviews are starting this week. So let me know if you’d like to be on the list. Wisconsin is Minnesota’s next door neighbor, and the state in which I developed my appreciation for weekends at cabins. Way, way, way back when, I used to go with my friends Kelly and Larry, both Wisconsinites, to Kelly’s parents’ cabin on a lake in Wisconsin. Kelly’s family was from Janesville, and Larry’s family was from Madison; Kelly’s parents’ summer cabin? I have no idea where in Wisconsin it was, but it was always a lot of fun. All I know is, it was very, very far out in the toolies and t

I only met him three times, but he was a fine man, a staunch Catholic and a WWII hero. And I guess I’m a bit like him (he was my grandfather’s cousin)…I just wonder if it was his desire to be cremated (which has never in the history of the world been Christian custom).John Stewart Sonnen: 1913-2008Faithful to the EndSonnen, John StewartBorn February 2, 1913 in St. Paul, MN.Died January 5, 2008 in St. Paul, MN.John grew up at Rice and Como in St. Paul and attended Cathedral Grade School. We haven’t heard much from Foundry Field Recordings since 2007’s Fallout Stations EP, but judging from the band’s touring schedule, it looks like things may be ramping up in the FFR camp. The band has scheduled an early Spring tour that includes the midwest, the west coast, and then a number of dates at South By Southwest. To be honest, in recent months the band has really fallen off of our radar, mainly due to inactivity. That being said, we’ve supremely enjoyed everything they’ve put out, and

Sigurd Olson, the great naturalist and inspiring writer, with strong Hayward connections, had a cabin in northern Minnesota, which he affectionately dubbed, “Listening Point.”In 1956, after a long search for the perfect “get-away” spot, Sig happened upon the property one day, and instantly knew had found a treasure. A farm, seven miles south of Ely, had been condemned to make way for the airport. Seeing the land with eyes of the soul, Sig bought it, and built a rustic cabin where “we could just

nic the intern’s white out - Hideyuki Nakayama Thursday, 08 January 09 - 04:37 PM (GMT -06:00) By rolu dsgn in architecture white out is an ongoing series of posts drawn from a presentation that our intern nicolas allinder gave about his research into recent modern japanese architecture.
