Minnesota Lake Cabin

LOOKING AHEAD

Photo by Pete Wuebker One of the nicest things about spending any time at the cabin in Northern Minnesota is that we can draw the curtain on real life to our south and just be.  I am always amazed at how quickly time seems to pass when we are there.  Many of the tasks I plan to accomplish there remain undone.  Instead, I might spend a half hour watching a fox cavort on the ice in the lagoon, another hour snowshoeing around the point with my sister-in-law, and three hours sprawled on the daybed

North American Bird Blogs

What follows is a list of active and inactive North American (Canada to Panama) bird blogs that are personally known to me. There are certainly many others that I have not yet discovered, with more being created daily. My goal is to make this list as comprehensive as possible. I plan to update the list frequently, so if you know of other North American bird blogs (or have one yourself) that should be included here, please leave a comment.Active:10,000 Birds (NY)200 Birds in Manitoba (MB)600 Bird

However the IAT has its own unique superlatives thanks in part to the Wisconsin

Hey. Remember me? Well, I’m back. Sorry for the delay. (It seems like I’ve been apologizing a lot lately.) I just spent two weeks in Big Lake training dogs and it was fantastic. They have lots of snow there and great trails. And it’s warm…and by warm, I mean not 20 below F like it is here. Some days it was a little too warm and so I did a lot of night running. I trained with my BFF Rich Savoyski out of Greg Parvin’s house. The trail jumps right onto the Iditarod route with lots of twisty turns

Getting The Special Edition Out

My grandfather’s newsroom at the Red Lake Falls MN Gazette, early 1900s. What would he think of today’s instant journalism? A proof sheet with the headline “A Monster Massacre” hangs over the chair in the foreground. If you can see the detail, coats and hats are thrown carelessly over the table on the right, which seems to be for setting up type, perhaps for advertisements as it’s at the front of the shop in front of a railing. The wooden tray with square boxes is for sorting type. My gran
