I got this following verbatim from John C. Maxwell’s, The 24 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. In it, he tells a story from the movie, The Great Outdoors: In the movie, John Candy plays Chet, a man vacationing with his family at a small lake community in the woods. He is unexpectedly visited by his sister-in-law and her husband, Roman. As the two men sit on the porch of their cabin over-looking the lake and miles of beautiful forest, they start to talk. And Roman, who see himself as a wheeler-dea

MN names poet laureate

Written by on February 27th, 2008 in Minnesota Lake Cabin.

“It is surely a great calamity for a human being to have no obsessions.” Robert Bly has been named the first poet laureate of Minnesota. Gov. Pawlenty made it so yesterday. Funny, anyone else remember when Pawlenty rejected the idea of having a poet laureate? Well, I’m glad that this - like more than a few things lately - has come back to bite him in the ass. With that tone in mind, Bly is certainly a wonderful choice. Speaking of things wonderous and Minnesotan, I plan to be held up in a l

About 40 minutes north of Duluth lays a small town known as Cotton. When people think of Cotton, people think of it as just a small redneck town, in which it is, but it is also home to the Minnesota Fiddle Fest every year. But above all of that, Cotton Minnesota is where my cabin/shack is located on the breathtaking “West Bass Lake”. To me, Cotton is much MUCH more than a little town with an abundance of fiddles, it …

All of the Fun - None of the Work! We just listed some great properties in Nevis Minnesota. These are all part of an association - meaning most of the work is taken care of for you ($75 monthly association fee). Cameron and I were interviewed by the Minneapolis Star Tribune a week or two ago on this subject - so watch for the interview i

Ahhh! Oudoor training! February 25th, 2008 I don’t know about all of you, but I start to get severe ‘basement fever’ (like cabin fever but way worse) right about now.  Thankfully the weather behaved and warmed up enough to allow for some quality riding outside.  Training has been going quite well with the exception of longer rides.  I can only watch so many movies, etc, while on the trainer before I go nuts.  I feel sorry for mice that have that spinning thing in their cages - it’s just not f

Seven Layers of Me…

Written by on February 24th, 2008 in Minnesota Lake Cabin.

As I mentioned before, my good friend Dave “tagged” me with the “Seven Layers of Me” meme. Basically a meme it is like one of those e-mail forwards that you have to answer some questions, send your answer back to the sender and forward it on to more people. So here is my go at it. Depending on how well you know me, some of these may seem normal, but instead of trying to accommodate everyone, I figured I would change the goal of the meme a little bit to things that make me who I am. 1) I am in l
